Dr. Fig Finkelstein

DAcCHM, DOM, LAc, RH

With over 17 years of clinical practice and herbal education, Fig specializes in Classical Five Element Herbalism, Appalachian Folk Herbalism, and natural Entheogen medicine. Through HerbAhava, she blends Eastern and Western medicine traditions to create a strong holistic educational foundation.

In practice, Fig relies heavily on up-to-date clinical research along with the teachings & cycles of the natural world. As a 4th generation Appalachian farmer growing-up on her family’s strawberry farm, she was first introduced to herbal medicine at an early age, passed down through generations of Appalachian folk healers within her kin and surrounding community.

Fig’s connection to nature & Classical Five Element philosophy was strengthened during her solo hike on the Appalachian Trail where she received her calling as a holistic medicine doctor and educator.

In 2016, Fig founded Herban Austin, a medicinal herb farm in Central Texas, and in 2024 her and her family returned to Eastern Tennessee to start the HerbAhava School of Holistic Herbalism. On her historic Knoxville farm, she sustainably cultivates botanicals for both Traditional Western Folk and Traditional Chinese medicines. Additionally, she works as a horticulturalist at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum.

Fig has worked extensively with the V.A. to serve the veteran population, helping to ease conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), neurological disorders, and substance addiction.
